Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari, Receives Head of the UN Working Group on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari, received on Monday, January 29, 2024, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, the Head of the UN Working Group on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises, Mr. Damilola S. Olawuyi, currently on a visit to the Kingdom upon the invitation of the National Human Rights Council.

During the reception, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari noted the readiness of the Moroccan House of Representatives to consolidate the partnership and cooperation with this UN body, particularly as the Kingdom currently chairs the UN Human Rights Council for 2024 following its election to this prominent position on January 10, 2024, in Geneva.

On this occasion, Rep. Mohamed Sabbari briefed the UN Official on the significant progress achieved by our country in recent years in human rights thanks to the institutional reforms it has conducted at various levels under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him.

Besides, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives gave an overview of the prerogatives of the Moroccan Parliament, highlighting in particular the role of the two Houses of Parliament in legislation, Government action control, and public policy evaluation.

For his part, the Head of the UN Working Group on the Issue of Human Rights and Transnational Corporations and Other Business Enterprises noted that his visit to the Kingdom of Morocco aims to strengthen the abilities of national actors in human rights and business operations by organizing several conferences and workshops.

It should be noted that this visit falls within the scope of the technical cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Head of Cooperation and International Relations at the National Human Rights Council, Mr. Khalid Ramli, also attended the meeting.
