Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks on Monday, June 28, 2021, at the House, with the Head of the Libyan transitional Government Abdelhamid Dbeibah, currently on an official visit our country at the head of an important delegation.
In this meeting, the Head of the Libyan transitional Government hailed the efforts of the Kingdom of Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in solving the Libyan crisis. He stated, "We would like to thank His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Kingdom of Morocco. You got the region out of several crises, did great efforts in favor of the Libyan people, and established the bases for the inter-Libyan dialogue that started from Sekhirat in the Kingdom of Morocco." In the same respect, he stressed the importance of the continuous support of the Kingdom of Morocco for the Libyan national reconciliation. He added, "The Kingdom of Morocco is a neutral country qualified for contributing to the national reconciliation and being its axis and pillar."
Besides, Mr. Abdelhamid Dbeibah called for consolidating the economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries, noting that the “new Libya” needs the Moroccan expertise and companies. He also revealed the agreement on the convention of a Morocco-Libya economic forum at the earliest convenience. The forum will be an occasion to promote investment opportunities in the two countries and enable businesspersons to establish economic and commercial partnerships.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives reaffirmed the support of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Libyan people. He added, “The Kingdom of Morocco has a strong political will to rebuild Libya and assist in the inter-Libyan dialogu and the national reconciliation is the only solution to the Libyan crisis.”
Mr. El Malki highlighted the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in opening new cooperation horizons and affirmed the distinguished ties linking the legislative institutions of the two countries. He also underlined the highlights of the inter-Libyan dialogue hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco in Sekhirat, Bouzenika, Rabat, and Tangier. The Speaker of the House stressed that the forthcoming elections at the end of the year in Libya would "enable the brotherly Libyan population to resume its journey towards constructing a stable State."
The meeting was also an opportunity to exchange points of view on several questions of mutual interest. In this respect, the two parties affirmed the importance of forming the Morocco-Libya Joint High Commission, advancing economic and commercial cooperation, and facilitating movement between the two countries. They also stressed the importance of consolidating consultation and coordination between the two countries in the various international fora.
