Speaker of House of Representatives Receives Director-General of Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization ICESCO

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks, on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020, at the House's headquarters, with Director-General of Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization ICESCO Salim ben Mohammed Al-Malik.

At the start of the meeting, Mr. Salim ben Mohammed Al-Malik noted that Morocco is one of the countries that founded and support the ICESCO. On the same occasion, he presented the strategic orientations of the Organization’s work for the next years and the main projects it intends to implement, highlighting the Organization’s new vision, which is based on transparency and good governance.

The Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization added that Morocco is a key partner to the ICESCO, noting several projects launched by the Organization in the Kingdom regarding education, learning, culture, and heritage preservation. He also stated that the ICESCO and several international organizations regard the reforming vision and high directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI as a reference when drawing up their action plans and programs.

On his side, Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki lauded the efforts of the ICESCO, recalling that the late His Majesty King Hassan II, may God rest his soul, played a central role in its creation in 1982. The House's Speaker noted that the Organization holds an important position at the international level as it now gathers 54 member States from different regions, calling for focusing its efforts to assist mainly African countries.

Also, Mr. El Malki commended the initiatives launched by the ICESCO to promote cultural development, openness on other countries and organizations, inter-civilizational dialogue, knowledge-based society, and other projects. He added that “the ICESCO is a soft power with whom we share the same values and orientations.”

It should be noted that the ICESCO is an international organization that is concerned with education, sciences, and culture, and operates under the aegis of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Its headquarters is located in Rabat, the capital of the Kingdom of Morocco.
